Breaking Silence, Building Strength: Pathways Out of Abuse

Presentation Overview

Family violence and abuse not only shatter individuals in the moment but can create enduring cycles of trauma that ripple across generations. Drawing on both lived experience and research into domestic violence, this presentation explores the complex interplay between trauma, emotional resilience, and recovery. It will unpack how family violence impacts mental health, relationships, and community wellbeing, with particular attention to the hidden emotional scars that often go unrecognised. Through personal narratives, case studies, and evidence-based strategies, the session will highlight pathways to healing that move beyond crisis intervention to long-term emotional restoration. Practical tools and culturally informed approaches will be shared to empower survivors, rebuild self-worth, and break cycles of abuse. By reframing recovery as both an individual and collective responsibility, this session offers hope, practical guidance, and a vision for communities where safety, dignity, and emotional wellbeing can thrive.

Three Key Learnings:
1. Understanding the Lasting Impact of Family Violence – Gain insight into how trauma affects mental health, relationships, and community wellbeing, including the often unseen emotional scars.

2. Pathways to Healing and Recovery – Learn practical, evidence-based strategies to support survivors in moving beyond crisis intervention toward long-term emotional restoration.

3. Breaking the Cycle through Community and Cultural Awareness – Discover how culturally informed and community-driven approaches can empower survivors, rebuild self-worth, and prevent intergenerational cycles of abuse.
