Trauma Informed Care: From Principles to Practice
Presentation Overview
The Trauma Informed Care: from principles to practice workshop aims to support participants to put the core concepts and principles of trauma-informed care into practice in accordance with their organisational values, needs and service structure.
Trauma-informed care is often defined as a set of principles and can seem conceptual rather than practical. Consequently, it may be difficult to visualise what trauma-informed care looks like in practice or what it means to individual organisations.
Implementation of these core concepts and principles may happen in different ways depending on your organisation’s specific needs. This practical workshop will guide you through some of the key aspects to consider before, during and after implementation of Trauma Informed Care; it will provide an opportunity to discuss implementation issues; and help you reflect on what your organisation is already doing and what further action could be taken.
In this workshop you will:
Review the potential impact of trauma on young people and their mental health
Describe how and why it is important to screen for trauma in health settings
Appraise organisational barriers and facilitators to implementing trauma-informed practice
Explore the involvement of young people in supporting the implementation of trauma-informed practice
Develop a plan for implementing trauma-informed care in your setting.
Three Key Learnings:
1. Appraise organisational barriers and facilitators to implementing trauma-informed practice
2. Explore the involvement of young people in supporting the implementation of trauma-informed practice
3. Develop a plan for implementing trauma-informed care in your setting
