Decarbonisation and Queensland's North West Corridor
Abstract
The Dynamic North West – Nothing Else Measures Up:
The presentation will firstly outline the resource opportunities in the MITEZ corridor, specifically the North West Minerals Province, as well as the economic multiplier effects of the intricate multi-faceted logistic supply chain from pit to port, west to east. It will include the effectiveness of infrastructure and freight machinations, port facilities, land availability,
The presentation will then go on to highlight the untapped resources and the emerging proponents/industry in the North West. Opportunities such as phosphate and vanadium as well as processing and advanced manufacturing synergies. The importance of critical minerals shaping commodity demand as the world addresses the impacts of climate change will be the focus here. For example the NWMP will continue to grow and diversify as a result of demand continuing to increase over the coming decades to meet zero emission targets. Investments in processing/manufacturing infrastructure will be included here (government and private).
The final part of the presentation will focus on sustainable mining activities from the perspective of NW Qld leading the transformation by sustainably mining, processing, manufacturing and supplying critical and strategic minerals. The presentation will touch on the CopperString project to connect the NW to the National Electricity Market, renewable solar and wind projects (existing and potential) renewable energy zones, electric fleets on rail (and potentially road).
I will reach out to MITEZ members to ensure all information is correct and up to date. MITEZ members include mining companies such as Glencore, MMG, South32, Incitec Pivot, Eva Copper, Evolution, Chinova; emerging proponents such as QEM, Multicom, Qld Pacific Metals; energy proponents such as APA and Powerlink/CopperString; Logistic providers such as Qld Rail, Aurizon, Marinez, Port of Townsville, Qube; Renewable companies such Windlab, Iberdrola and all 7 LGAs across the corridor from Townsville to Mt Isa.
