Three Key Learnings

1. Delegates will understand the concept of “the second violence” as the further harm that can occur when systems designed to protect survivors reproduce fear, disbelief, delay, minimisation or procedural burden after disclosure. 2. Delegates will consider why first responses to family and domestic violence should be understood not only as legal or procedural encounters, but as public health issues that can affect survivor safety, trust, wellbeing, recovery and future help-seeking. 3. Delegates will identify practical opportunities to redesign first response so that systems interrupt harm rather than reproduce it, including reducing repeated retelling, strengthening warm referral pathways, and prioritising safety, recognition and care in the first moments of response.
