'A New Mind Set' Supporting Workplaces: Rural and Remote Settings

Abstracts

OzHelp Tasmania delivers mental health training to the workplace throughout Tasmania. Many of these locations are in remote settings which include Flinders and King Island located in Bass Strait. Other remote locations include the many power stations situated throughout Tasmania which are often in mountainous locations. Work teams are often separated from their families for extended periods of time. The presentation will showcase, 'Á New Mind Set', a Mental Health Workplace program. Which also includes Suicide Awareness and Prevention Training' S.A.L.T. The presentation will look at how it is delivered and sustained in these remote settings. What has worked in engaging a typically male workforce in the area of understanding and improving their mental health.

1. How to deliver a Mental Health program to rural and remote workplaces.
2. How to make it male friendly and engaging.
3. How to sustain the program over many years.

Biography

David has worked as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner. Managed a Mental Health organisation which utilized the ‘Boston Model’ of recovery. David is the author of the ‘Core Value Therapy’ model developed in 2007 and travels around the nation training other practitioners in this model. Currently he also works for OzHelp Tasmania as a workplace mental health trainer. His passion is to help equip people understand and improve their mental health, so they can be emotionally healthy, having successfully lasting relationships.
