Understanding LGBTIQ+ Family Violence from Survey Results of 4,000 LGBTIQ+ Australians (VIRTUAL)
Abstract
Through data collected in April-May 2020 and May-July 2021, we take a look at staggering statistics for the rates of family violence among 4,000 LGBTIQ+ Australians as well as relationships to mental health and well-being and help seeking behaviours.
This presentation draws on recent community survey results conducted by the Centre for Family Research and Evaluation at Drummond Street Services as well as a ground breaking research report on domestic and family violence affecting LGBTIQ+ people, There’s no Safe Place at Home, from Equality Australia and the Centre for Family Research and Evaluation at Drummond Street Services.
This presentation will enable us to share important findings so that we can collectively look at ways we can all improve service responses for LGBTIQ+ people most at risk of experiencing family violence.
3 Key Learnings:
1. Understanding the experiences of family violence for LGBTIQ+ people
2. Understanding the rates of LGBTIQ+ family violence
3. Implications for services
