Panel - Diverse Experiences of Coercive Control and Related Support Needs (VIRTUAL)
Abstract
This panel explores the nature and impact of coercive control experienced by a sample of Australian victim-survivors of domestic and family violence. Recognising that there has been significant debate surrounding criminal law responses to coercive control across Australian state and territory jurisdictions, this panel seeks to draw attention to diverse lived experiences of coercive control, including experiences specific to LGBTIQA+ survivors, mothers and children, women living with a disability and survivors seeking help outside the criminal justice realm. To do so, the panel draws from the finding of a quantitative and qualitative survey completed in 2021 by 1392 Australian victim-survivors.
