Healthy Relationships, Safer Futures - Educating Young People About Sex, Friendship, Consent and Body Confidence

Abstract

In this workshop, attendees will be guided through some practical exercises that they can guide young people through to collaboratively discuss with and educate young people on the topics of sex, friendships, consent and body confidence.

Attendees will be given the opportunity to participate in these activities role playing as young people to see how effective these activities can be to stimulate discussion and the safe sharing of experiences and use these discussion points to determine what resources and information young people need which will differ depending upon their location, background and other psycho social determinants.

The process of how to educate young people about their physical, mental and sexual rights will be explained and how essential it is to try and identify healthy and supportive role models, both in the form of individuals and different types of relationships.

Healthy and safe relationships are one of the biggest determinants of good physical and mental wellbeing for a young person as well as an adult. This workshop will provide safe ways on how to assist young people to identify healthy and safe behaviour, how to actively contribute to other people's feelings of safety and also how to best intervene when they identify behaviour and acts that do not promote safety and body confidence.

By educating young people about what qualities make good, healthy and safe relationships we can assist them to make more informed and educated choices and also positively influence their peers, carers and their schools, communities and workplaces as they transition into adulthood.
