Showcasing the Anrows Evidence Portal as a Tool That Informs Evidence-based Policy, Practice, and Research

Abstract

The ANROWS Evidence Portal is a living online resource that captures interventions aiming to address and end violence against women. Underpinned by systematic review methodology and overseen by two advisory groups, the Evidence Portal consolidates available “what works” evidence through evidence gap maps, which provide a big-picture, visual overview of interventions using a pre-specified framework. The website hosts a series of Intervention Reviews, providing a standardised assessment of available interventions from high-income countries in accessible language, designed specifically for policy and practice use.
Interventions included in the Evidence Portal are organised across the domains of Prevention, Early Intervention, Response and Recovery and Healing. The broad inclusion criteria means the Evidence Portal includes interventions that address many forms of violence against women, including domestic violence. The aim of this approach was to create a tool that informs evidence-based policy, practice, and research by promoting collective understandings of intervention effectiveness and gaps in the evidence-base.
This presentation will describe the methodology used to build the Evidence Portal. It will highlight how the tool can be added to practitioners’, policymakers’, and researchers’ “toolkits” to assist with scoping, funding, or evaluating intervention projects. By showcasing the visual aids on our website, the presentation will also provide a brief overview of interventions and knowledge gaps in the field.
Attendees will take away these key learnings:
1) how to use the Evidence Portal to explore knowledge and gaps regarding interventions for addressing violence against women;
2) an understanding of the Evidence Portal methodology and its value in collating and organising evidence;
3) how the Evidence Portal can be used to promote ideas for future research, practice and policy.
The Evidence Portal embodies the hope that this generation can end domestic violence by making knowledge on interventions accessible and attainable to everyone, because DV is everyone’s responsibility.
