Breaking the Silence on FDV in CaLD Communities
Abstract
Breaking the Silence on FDV in CaLD Communities The Vimauna – Breaking the Silence program was developed to enable and motivate CaLD community members to become change agents, by acquiring the tools and understanding to step in and address problematic behaviour and prevent violence against women in their own communities. To develop and deliver this innovative program, a consortium was formed between the: •Multicultural Services Centre of WA (MSCWA) •Ethnic Communities Council of WA (ECCWA) •Ishar Multicultural Women’s Health Service The following outcomes will be discussed: •Community engagement success •Effectiveness of Multicultural Wellness Connectors •Greater awareness of FVA •Greater knowledge around FVA definitions, types and prevalence •Increased awareness of the root causes of FVA •Increased knowledge of how gender and cultural norms contribute to FVA •Increased knowledge of supports available to those experiencing FVA •Very high satisfaction across all workshops, training, resources & support provided •Key learnings and future directions
