Growing the Peer Workforce in Regional Communities
Abstract
Building on the successes of SANE's Community Guide Program, this new Peer Pathway Program aims to help build readiness among people with complex mental health needs who need practical work experience and/or education to pursue employment in the growing peer workforce.
SANE's Peer Pathways program will work with people who are unemployed or experiencing interruptions in employment due to mental health, psycho-social disability, experience of discrimination, family violence, trauma or social isolation and reside in SEIFA regions Wide Bay, Queensland, Hobart, Tasmania and Darwin, Northern Territory. SANE's Peer Pathways program combines training, peer coaching and mentoring to support people to develop skills to become peer workers.
This presentation will be valuable for attendees interested in learning how volunteering and work experience combined with digital peer support services can be combined to improve employment opportunities for people with lived experiences of mental health. It will also share SANE's successful approach to growing the peer workforce pipeline in regional/remote regions in Australia.
