Mustering Growth: Scaling a Rural Resilience Program for Schoolchildren Across Australia

Presentation Overview

The Mustering Growth program is a school place-based initiative designed to build emotional resilience and wellbeing in school-aged children in rural and remote communities. Initially piloted in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales following significant flooding events, the program has since undergone further development based on feedback from educators, mental health professionals, families, and participating students.
This presentation will explore the program’s evolution, including the integration of trauma-informed approaches, culturally appropriate materials, and differentiated content for varying age groups. It will also outline the rollout strategy to additional rural schools across Australia, highlighting community partnerships, educator training, and flexible delivery models that account for geographic and logistical challenges.
Attendees will gain insight into the program’s outcomes to date, including early evaluation findings and student engagement metrics.
