Consumer Peer Work in a Multidisciplinary Therapeutic Team
Abstract
This presentation will focus on the role of the consumer peer worker within the MyStep to Mental Wellbeing Program and how we take a unique collaborative approach to working with clinical staff. This collaboration with clinical staff works to ensure outcomes for consumers are holistic. A framework for embedding consumer peer workers within wider mental health teams will be presented. Consumer outcomes and consumer stories will be used to demonstrate the effectiveness of this model.
Biography
Spencer McGill is a Senior Peer Worker for MyStep to Mental Wellbeing in Murrumbidgee Local Health District who is passionate about the progression of the Peer and Lived Experience workforce, destigmatisation of living with Mental ill health and centres Consumer Experience within every aspect of his work. Spencer lives in Deniliquin, N.S.W with his Wife, Son and animals and enjoys spending his free time riding his motorcycle and being outdoors.

Biography
Amy Salmon is a Social Worker who has been working in the Mental Health and Addictions field for 18 years. Amy is passionate about rural mental health care and she is driven to ensure high quality mental health services are accessible to our most vulnerable community members. Amy was awarded an Honorary Mention for Outstanding Contributions to Healthcare Leadership for her work with the MyStep to Mental Wellbeing Program.
