Gender Aligning Voice Training

Presentation Overview

Three Key Learnings:
1. Understand Neurodivergence, Voice, and LGBTIQ+ communities' prevalence.

2. Learn about the Gender Aligning Voice Training process and communication skills.

3. Know team members and referral options for connecting individuals with training.

Explore Gender Aligning Voice training, a process that empowers transgender and non-binary individuals to adjust their voice in a way that aligns with their gender identity. Senior Speech Pathologist Jenny Matthews will share her experience about gender-affirming voice training and neurodiversity-inclusive practices. Jenny collaborates with the Brisbane Endocrine and Gender Service, a safe and inclusive environment for voice transformation which includes Endocrinology and Psychology. Voice is a crucial aspect of gender transition for many individuals. Yet voice training remains an under-recognised area in the journey, impacting self-identity, confidence and wellness.
This session offers an overview of the steps and techniques used in gender-affirming voice therapy, emphasizing the importance of inclusive, evidence-based practice for both neurodivergent and LGBTIQ+ individuals. Jenny will discuss what is involved in assessment and the training process from introduction to generalisation. You will hear before/ after voice samples and learn about key prevalence statistics to highlight the impact of voice training on gender affirmation and mental well-being. Voice training is more than a change in pitch. Using a patient led approach individuals can also cover whole communication including non-speech sounds, vocabulary and body language.
Join Jenny Matthews and explore the transformative power of voice training in gender alignment.
