The impacts of Livingworks SafeTALK suicide intervention workshops in the SA Aboriginal community

Abstract

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island people are at disproportionate risk of death by suicide. The Aboriginal Health Council of South Australia has been delivering Livingworks SafeTALK (Suicide Alertness for everyone; Tell, Ask, Listen, Keepsafe) half-day alertness workshop, aimed at preparing anyone over the age of 15, regardless of prior experience, to become a suicide-alert helper.
SafeTALK workshops are a way of making a difference through sharing with Aboriginal communities the importance of suicide alertness and how to recognise the signs of suicidal thoughts in others.
This presentation will highlight the learnings from delivering numerous SafeTALK workshops in Aboriginal settings and locations ranging from urban to rural and remote across South Australia.
