Constructing an Interdisciplinary Integrative Care Program Using Ketamine Infusions and Adjunct Psychotherapy

Abstract

Zed3 Medical Group is a mental health focussed private clinic with experience working with first responders, defence personnel, veterans, and other clients with complex trauma presentations. One of the services within this organisation is an interdisciplinary team who specialises in working with people diagnosed with posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and treatment-resistant depression (TRD). The primary components of treatment include mental health assessment and reviews, medically supervised in hospital ketamine infusions, adjunct psychotherapy, and supportive care. This novel combination of therapies requires a dynamic and flexible integrative approach to care and recovery.

In this workshop, we will give participants information on the structure of the program by taking participants through a mock case study of a common presentation of a person going through the program. Participants will be provided with current information and emerging research trends within this area, and the opportunity for discussion around the similarities and differences between this program and psychedelic assisted therapies. Lastly, we hope to share the program’s challenges and achievements, allowing for participants to gain deeper understanding of developing future models of care within their workplace.

Four Key Learnings:
1. Develop skills and knowledge regarding an interdisciplinary approach to novel psychedelic treatments, and how this facilitates tailored recovery.
2. Increasing understanding current research trends in psychedelic therapy.
3. Recognising the role of interdisciplinary collaboration and integrative care in novel treatments.
4. Identify the importance of interdisciplinary partnerships in regard to clinical outcomes and recovery.
