Innovative Hybrid Model for ADHD Care: Overcoming Barriers in Assessment and Support
Abstract
Recent findings from the Senate Inquiry into ADHD highlight significant barriers in accessing ADHD assessments and support. In response, Oqea, in collaboration with health professionals and patients, has developed an innovative hybrid model of care designed to overcome these challenges.
Oqea is a digital platform that connects Members (patients) and health professionals, providing anytime access to hybrid services, with a special focus on ADHD assessments.
Oqea’s ADHD pathway undergoes weekly reviews by a team of health professionals, researchers, and technology specialists. It is co-designed and developed with input from members, staff with lived experience, and health professionals.
ADHD Pathway steps include:
1. Immediate complimentary access to the Oqea app, offering targeted resources, and self-help tools
1. Comprehensive ADHD assessment
2. Diagnosis and treatment planning
3. Diverse treatment options, including therapy, medication, and self-help tools.
Preliminary results from an ADHD pathway evaluation study show that most participants (67% women, 13% non-binary/third gender; average age 43.20) find the Oqea app helpful in improving their mental health and wellbeing on their ADHD journey (88%) and are confident that their data is handled securely (84%). Participants report that the Oqea app has helped improve their wellbeing by tracking appointments and well-being, communicating with health professionals, accessing information, organising tasks, and taking journaling notes. Participants report numerous areas that have improved as a result of the ADHD pathway, including mood, self-care, time management, and organisation. Most participants are likely to recommend the ADHD pathway to a friend or colleague (NPS 33.33).
Three Key Learnings:
1. Innovative approaches to ADHD assessments
2. Collaboration is key
3. How to leverage digital tools to improve efficiencies
