Abstract
Work-related suicide is a growing concern globally, particularly in high-risk industries where workers face immense pressures. This presentation explores the psychosocial risk factors contributing to work-related suicide, including leadership failures, unrealistic workloads, and a lack of mental health support. Drawing from recent cases and legislative changes, Jamie Mallinder will provide evidence-based strategies to help organizations create safer, more supportive environments. He will focus on leadership’s role in recognizing warning signs, fostering open mental health conversations, and implementing structural changes to mitigate risks.
Three Key Learnings:
1. Understand how work-related suicide is defined and recognize the key psychosocial risk factors that contribute to its occurrence in various industries.
2. Implement leadership-driven interventions to create psychologically safe work environments, in line with global legislative developments aimed at addressing psychosocial risks and mental health in the workplace.

Jamie Mallinder is a Principal Consultant at Sentis with close to 20 years of experience in workplace safety and mental health advocacy. A multiple-award winning professional, Jamie’s work has been recognized by prestigious platforms, including the Suicide Prevention Australia Awards LiFE in both 2023 and 2024. He specializes in psychosocial risks and suicide prevention, with a focus on high-risk industries. Jamie is a licensed Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) instructor with lived experience and a thought leader in holistic, leadership-driven approaches to mental health and safety.
