A World First: Introducing the National Centre for Workplace Mental Health & Wellbeing

Abstract

The intersection of work and mental health is emerging as one of the most significant challenges and opportunities of our time. In response, we are proud to introduce the National Centre for Workplace Mental Health & Wellbeing (National Centre), a first-of-its-kind initiative. Positioning Australia as a global leader in driving system-level change, the National Centre will deliver scalable solutions for workplace mental health and wellbeing. It will become a major hub for the growing economies in the Asia-Pacific region.
Workplaces worldwide are facing mounting challenges, with rising levels of psychological distress, stress-related conditions, and burnout contributing to declining worker wellbeing and mounting economic loss. Yet, the untapped potential of mentally healthy workplaces to deliver better experiences for workers, and outcomes for workplaces and societies, remains vast. Recognising the scale and urgency of this issue, and the opportunities for innovation, Australia is stepping forward with a visionary and evidence-driven solution.
The National Centre for Workplace Mental Health & Wellbeing presents a transformative opportunity for effectively improving psychosocial safety, mental health and wellbeing and productivity outcomes and tackling preventable costs and harmful workforce impacts.
