Revolutionising Mentally Healthy Workplaces – Forging a Path to Global Leadership
Abstract
The health, safety and wellbeing of Australia’s workforce is a foundational cornerstone for economic and social prosperity. Yet, in an era marked by unprecedented workplace pressures, unrelenting change, and mental health challenges, the urgency for transformation in how people experience work has never been greater. The National Centre for Workplace Mental Health & Wellbeing (National Centre) will address this urgent need, facilitating coordinated national action and innovation to improve workplace mental health and wellbeing, productivity and the growing psychosocial safety challenges impacting all working Australians, organisations and governments.
Despite significant advancements in research, policies, legislative reforms and initiatives over the past decades, workplace mental health continues to present a costly and complex issue. The substantial financial burden on Governments, insurers, injured workers, industry, and the Australian public at large, deserves decisive action. The scale and complexity of these issues however, have proven too formidable and financially prohibitive for any single jurisdiction or industry to tackle independently.
The National Centre represents a bold, future-focused solution: a revolutionary initiative that positions Australia as a global pioneer in creating mentally healthy workplaces. The National Centre will break new ground to drive positive change and impact at scale.
In this session, we will showcase the centre’s unique approach, the workstreams and key outcomes and explore opportunities for becoming involved in defining the future of workplace mental health and wellbeing together.
Australia’s workforce and workplaces are at a critical juncture, as are most countries around the world. Without coordinated action, workplace mental health, safety and wellbeing challenges will continue to undermine worker health, business performance and national productivity.
This bold national initiative offers an opportunity to redefine success in the modern workforce and workplace, by creating future-focused solutions that leverage existing investments, harness collaboration, and inspire innovation.
Three Key Learnings:
1. Understand the unique value proposition of a national, coordinated and collaborative approach
2. Understand how the National Centre plans to solve some the most challenging and entrenched issues impacting workers and workplaces
3. Learn how to become involved in future-focused and practical innovation
