Abstract
Trauma Informed Leadership
Exposure to potentially traumatic events (PTEs) gives rise to significant organisational responsibility and a duty of care towards promoting the wellbeing of employees. Nonetheless, despite the substantial body of leadership literature and the burgeoning research on mental health, wellbeing, and posttraumatic growth (PTG), scant attention has been paid to investigating the influence of precise leadership styles or characteristics within the emergency service context. Hence, this qualitative research addressed this gap by exploring ambulance workers’ lived experiences of leadership. Specifically what employees found beneficial for their wellbeing from both leader and follower perspectives. Preliminary findings underscored the crucial role that leaders play in providing Trauma Informed Leadership. This presentation aims to discuss leadership factors that foster wellbeing including, Clinical Credibility, Engaging Personal Attributes, Active Awareness Skills and Being Supportive. This session will also facilitate introspection, encouraging participants to explore their leadership experiences and areas for potential growth.
