Jet Zero Australia: From the Regions to the Runway with Sustainable Aviation Fuel
Presentation Overview
Jet Zero is an Australian bioenergy company focussed on the development and operation of low carbon sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) projects from domestically sourced agricultural byproducts.
Jet Zero is developing Australia’s most progressed SAF project, Project Ulysses, at Townsville’s Cleveland Bay Industrial Precinct. Using the Alcohol-to-Jet (ATJ) production pathway, the project aims to produce 102 ML of SAF and 11 ML per annum of renewable diesel with first production targeted for 2028. It is estimated that Project Ulysses will directly deliver 1,000 construction jobs and more than 100 direct operational jobs to the region’s economy.
The project also has strong supply chain linkages to other key domestic industries employing 350,000 workers and will deliver key demand and employment drivers across the agriculture, aviation, energy, defence and logistics sectors.
Domestic SAF production using Australian feedstock also offers national fuel security in the heart of Townsville, Australia’s largest garrison city.
Jet Zero aims to help capture the economic benefits of a domestic SAF industry for Northern Australia. According to ARENA’s Bioenergy Roadmap, by 2030 a domestic SAF industry could be worth $10 billion in extra annual GDP with regional Australia positioned to receive most of those new jobs.
In the last three years, Jet Zero has secured a project site, negotiated domestic feedstock supply, and generated offtake agreements with airlines with the renewable diesel to be sold to local marine tourism, transport and mining sectors.
The initiative is supported with investment from the Queensland Government, ARENA, Qantas, Airbus, and Idemitsu Kosan of Japan.
Jet Zero is building not only a new project but a whole new sustainable industry for Northern Australia, leveraging strong government support and the region’s strategic industries and infrastructure.
