Port of Karumba Sustainable Development

Presentation Overview

The Port of Karumba has serviced the Gulf of Carpentaria since the 1880s - today, it is an underutilised asset with an uncertain future. Gulf Savannah Development has worked closely with regional stakeholders to investigate opportunities to sustainably develop the Port of Karumba.

The key opportunity is developing Port of Karumba as the second export/import pathway in Northern Australia that (i) diversifies supply chains, (ii) increases export and import opportunities for the region, (iii) addresses several regional structural and infrastructure limitations and (iv) complements other Ports in Northern Australia.

This presentation will:
- highlight the projects and initiatives Gulf Savannah Development is delivering across the region
- provide a Gulf regional overview - socio-economic, economic and industry, major projects and regional trends
- discuss Gulf economic development challenges, opportunities and priorities
- showcase Port of Karumba and its sustainable development, including background, historical perspectives, current issues and challenges, supply chain infrastructure challenges, development opportunities - past, present and emerging
- provide a strategic rationale for public and private investment in Port of Karumba and the region
- detail outcomes of economic impact assessment and cost:benefit analyses in developing Port of Karumba
- discuss next steps in developing Port of Karumba's future role in growing the region
