Critical Minerals – The First Step Towards a Decarbonised Future

Presentation Overview

The MITEZ region is positioned at the forefront of Australia’s energy transition, with vast reserves of critical minerals essential for the global shift towards a decarbonised economy. Boasting the second-largest vanadium deposit in the world and significant quantities of copper, zinc, and rare earth elements, the region is set to play a key role in powering the clean energy revolution. With a huge potential in critical minerals alone, and abundant renewable energy sources, the MITEZ corridor is primed to become a national hub for green energy production and mineral processing.
This presentation will explore how the MITEZ region can leverage its resources to become a global leader in the critical minerals supply chain. Maria will examine the current landscape, how critical minerals fit in the supply chain of decarbonisation, and the necessary policy and investment required to ensure long-term success.

Key Learnings:
1. Current Landscape: Economic & Strategic Importance – Understand how the MITEZ region’s vast mineral wealth can drive economic growth and help decarbonise Queensland and Australia at the same time.
2. Critical Minerals in the Supply Chain of Decarbonisation: Sustainability & Net Zero Transition – Learn about the role of critical minerals in the clean energy supply chain and how the region can capitalize on renewable energy integration for sustainable mining practices.
3. Policy and Investment: Infrastructure & Investment Needs – Explore the infrastructure developments, including common user vanadium processing facilities, new sulphuric acid plant and common user worker camps, required to support mineral extraction and processing.
