The Impact of First Nations Women in Local Northern Australia and Global Economies
Presentation Overview
This presentation is in the theme ,'nothing about Indigenous Peoples, without Indigenous Peoples'. In this context, Dr Odegaard provides an insight into the impact of First Nations Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women of Northern Australia ad the Pacifica in local and global economies.
The purpose is to identify Indigenous women at the forefront of Indigenous business, banking, investment and leadership. Case studies show that First Nations women are now in positions of power through their own self-determination in an effort to be significant contributors to their local communities, nation building and consequently, global economies. Developing Northern Australia provides a platform to elevate our women in business, entrepreneurship, innovation, existing industries and investment. It is important to consider Indigenous women in a growing Northern Australian Indigenous economy and deserves inclusion and acknowledgement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women who are effective leaders driving change. Legacy leadership looks at generational change where First Nations women are growing their businesses, innovations, technologies and economic expertise. This work is identifying the data and trends that are influencing change.
