Impact of Ethical Sourcing and ESG on Future of Workforce in Agriculture and Other Industries
Presentation Overview
The global shift toward ethical sourcing and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles is transforming workforce dynamics across agriculture and other industries. In Northern Australia, where agriculture, mining, and resources play a crucial role in economic growth, these factors are becoming increasingly significant in shaping the future of work.
Ethical sourcing ensures fair labour conditions, worker safety, and responsible supply chains—critical considerations for attracting and retaining a skilled workforce. With consumers, investors, and regulators demanding greater transparency, businesses must implement robust social compliance frameworks to remain competitive. In agriculture, programs such as Fair Farms are already setting benchmarks for responsible employment practices, ensuring workers are treated ethically while meeting market expectations.
Similarly, ESG principles are influencing workforce strategies by driving sustainability initiatives, improving workplace conditions, and fostering diversity and inclusion. Businesses that integrate ESG into their operations are not only mitigating risks but also gaining access to new markets and investment opportunities. This shift is particularly relevant in Northern Australia, where labour shortages and workforce retention remain ongoing challenges. By prioritising ethical labour practices, businesses can enhance their reputation, improve productivity, and secure long-term workforce sustainability.
This session will:
1. Explore how ethical sourcing and ESG frameworks are shaping the future of work in agriculture and beyond.
2. It will highlight best practices, industry trends, and policy recommendations to help businesses navigate this evolving landscape.
3. Through real-world examples, we will discuss how embracing these principles can drive economic growth, workforce stability, and a more sustainable future for Northern Australia.
