Maria James, Mount Isa to Townsville Economic Development Zone Inc (MITEZ)

Details

1 The MITEZ corridor operates as an integrated investment platform rather than a collection of standalone regions. Delegates will gain insight into how shared infrastructure, coordinated planning and supply-chain integration create a competitive, corridor-wide value proposition. 2 Successful investment attraction depends on structural alignment across infrastructure, energy, transport and workforce capability. The presentation will highlight how policy certainty and coordinated reform underpin large-scale industrial and critical minerals development. 3 An Investment Prospectus should function as an activation tool, not merely a promotional document. Delegates will learn how structured frameworks can reduce transaction friction, build investor confidence and accelerate project outcomes.

From Resource Province to Investment Corridor: Activating the Mount Isa–Townsville Economic Zone

Presentation Overview

The Mount Isa–Townsville Economic Development Zone (MITEZ) represents one of Australia’s most strategically significant industrial and resource corridors. Anchored by globally important copper, lead, zinc and emerging critical minerals, and connected to a deep-water export port in Townsville, the corridor is transitioning from a production region to an integrated investment ecosystem.

This presentation will outline the structure and strategic intent of the MITEZ Investment Attraction Prospectus, designed to reposition the corridor as a coordinated, investment-ready economic zone rather than a collection of individual local government areas.

The Investment Prospectus adopts a consistent framework across each LGA, highlighting strategic advantages, priority investment opportunities, infrastructure pipelines and workforce capability. It emphasises collaboration, supply chain integration and shared infrastructure to demonstrate the economic strength of the corridor as a single investment platform.

Importantly, this is not a marketing brochure, it is an activation tool. The Investment Prospectus connects investors with councils, industry, infrastructure proponents and MITEZ coordination support to accelerate decision-making and reduce transaction friction.

As global markets demand secure supply chains for energy transition and defence-related minerals, the Mount Isa–Townsville corridor is positioned to play a nationally significant role. DNAC26 provides an opportunity to present this unified investment narrative and strengthen national and international engagement.
