Biography
Maria James is the Chief Executive Officer of MITEZ (Mount Isa to Townsville Economic Development Zone Inc.), the peak regional economic development organisation representing seven local government areas across North West Queensland.
Maria brings extensive experience in regional leadership, strategic advocacy and stakeholder engagement across government and industry. She works closely with resource operators, infrastructure providers, councils and policymakers to strengthen the competitiveness of the Mount Isa–Townsville corridor. Under her leadership, MITEZ continues to advocate for rail reform, energy certainty, supply-chain integration and investment attraction, positioning the corridor as a nationally significant industrial and critical minerals hub.
