A Strong North, A Secure Australia

Presentation Overview

The Northern Territory is entering a significant period of growth and opportunity. As Australia's gateway to the Indo-Pacific, the Territory is increasingly important to the nation's economic prosperity, energy security and long-term resilience. Many of Australia's key priorities converge in the north, including reliable and affordable energy, critical minerals, stronger supply chains and the industrial capability needed to support future growth.

Major projects such as the Beetaloo Sub-basin and Arafura Rare Earths Nolans Project are unlocking nationally significant opportunities, providing the energy and resources required to power economic growth, strengthen sovereign capability and support Australia’s long-term resilience and supply chain security. At the same time, investments in defence and enabling infrastructure are reinforcing the Territory’s role as a frontline defence and geopolitical hub for Australian and allied military operations.

Projects such as the Northern Marine Complex at East Arm will create the only full-service marine sustainment hub between Cairns and Perth, strengthening Australia’s industrial, maritime and defence capabilities.

Investment in the Northern Territory is an investment in Australia’s future. It is an investment in energy security, economic growth, defence preparedness and national resilience. The opportunities before us are significant, but they cannot be realised by the Territory alone. Developing northern Australia is both a sovereign responsibility and a necessity to secure the national strategic interest.

The Northern Territory Government is stepping up as a trusted national partner. Our priorities are clear: rebuilding the economy, reducing crime and restoring our unique Territory lifestyle. A stronger economy creates jobs, attracts investment and builds long-term prosperity. Safer communities provide the confidence and certainty businesses need to invest and grow. Embracing the Territory lifestyle helps attract and retain the people, skills and workforce needed to support future growth.

In our Year of Growth, Certainty and Security, we are working constructively with the Commonwealth, industry and investors to unlock economic opportunity, attract private investment and build a larger, more productive economy.

The opportunities before us are significant, but they cannot be unlocked by the Territory alone. Realising the full potential of northern Australia will require partnership, investment and a shared commitment to developing the north as a driver of national prosperity, resilience and security.

The call to action is clear: work with us, invest with us, and help build a stronger north that delivers a secure Australia.
