Presentation Overview
The Alice Springs Town Council is delivering a coordinated suite of major infrastructure projects designed to strengthen the region’s liveability, enhance community wellbeing, and position Alice Springs as a leading example of remote area success. Across all initiatives, the Council has worked closely with the Federal Government, Northern Territory Government, local organisations, and the community to ensure each project reflects local needs and delivers long term value. These projects have been heavily consulted on and are intended to create meaningful infrastructure that delivers well into the future.
A central focus of the program is the Regeneration of the Alice Springs Town Centre, supported by a $20 million joint investment under the Priority Community Infrastructure Program. This includes the revitalisation of Todd Mall, streetscape upgrades, and an integrated public art and cultural trail, all scheduled for completion in December 2026. Complementing this is the $5.8 million Regional Skate and Play Precinct, developed with a local contractor. This facility opened in December 2025 and aims to at attract and retain families in the region.
Further strategic projects include the new Library Project, an investment of $20 million, with $15 million from the Northern Territory Government designed to expand the current 1,100 square metre facility to the recommended 1,500 square metres by 2027.
Recreational infrastructure is also being strengthened through the Frances Smith Pump Track, developed in partnership with the local mountain biking community, and the $5 million upgrade of Paul Fitzsimons Oval, delivered with Federal Government support.
Together, these initiatives reflect a clear vision: to bring the region’s unique character and landscape to life, enrich the quality of life for residents and visitors, and unlock the full potential of Central Australia.
