Working With Shame in a Family Violence Context

Abstract

Some suggest shame (and trauma) sits in all corners of the work we do with those affected by violence.

How well do we understand the embodied experiences and sensations of shame – its nature, power, and manifestations?

How well do we work with Shame to harness its potential for motivating respectful behaviour change?

What can we improve in our processes and practice to better pacify the impact of trauma for our clients?

The above topics will be explored via an interweaving of facilitated discussions, where cultural safety and perspectives will be drawn out and centred, allowing for a deep and rich knowledge interchange.
