In this keynote address, the Hon Chief Justice William Alstergren AO will outline the significant reforms the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Division 1) & (Division 2) have implemented to better respond to domestic and family violence. This includes the world-leading Lighthouse risk screening, triage and case management model, quick access to property settlements for vulnerable litigants with small asset pools at risk of economic coercion through the PPP Small Claims process, dedicated support for First Nations families through the Indigenous Family Liaison Officer Program, and how information sharing between the courts and state and territory child welfare agencies and police is closing gaps in the risk matrix for vulnerable families and children. The Hon Chief Justice Alstergren will also touch on how the courts are maintaining a culture of excellence for Judges and staff, through state-of-the-art training and education offerings from legal, social science and sector experts.
