Gladstone Region Economic Transition Roadmap.

Abstract

The Gladstone Region is at the forefront of the green energy transition in Queensland. In an Australian first, Gladstone Regional Council launched a 10-year economic transition roadmap to support and guide the region to becoming a renewable energy community.

This roadmap, developed through extensive research and stakeholder engagement, positions the region to capitalise on emerging energy opportunities while mitigating associated impacts. The roadmap outlines strategies for adapting to a rapidly evolving energy sector and fostering positive economic change over the next decade. Council has established guidelines for major project proponents to ensure alignment with transition principles and expectations.

Recognising the importance of community engagement, Council has prioritised public education on the transition to a green industrial ecosystem and net-zero emissions. A year and a half since its launch, the roadmap has garnered significant local, national, and international acclaim, highlighting its effectiveness in navigating the region's economic transformation.
