Te Runanga ō Ngāti Pikiao By Our People - For Our People

Abstract

To support the wellbeing of our indigenous communities, our response must be guided by our ancestral knowledge and driven by tribal organizations such as Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Pikiao.

Te Rūnanga o Ngāti Pikiao was established in 1987 to meet the needs of ngā uri o Ngāti Pikiao, the descendants of Ngāti Pikiao.
We have two key service areas – Health and Social Services.
GP staff
Counsellor
Whanau Ora Paearahi
Education Rangatahi Team (Summer Research Interns)
Our Incredible Years Program
Kia Piki te Ora (Maori Suicide Prevention)

In 1987 our elders could fore see the importance of an organization led by our own people to address some of our communities health needs, and today we carry on their legacy to provide a range of services and programs to our region.
We draw upon the knowledge of our Pikiao ancestors, whose attributes and accomplishments influenced the shaping of who we are and the whanau we support.

We are guided by the following pou:

Te Pou Haukeke-Identity/Whakapapa
Te Pou Taranui-Culture/Pikiaotanga
Te Pou Mokai-Language/Reo Taketake
Te Pou a Puwhakaoho-Education/Matauranga
Te Pou a Pikiaowera- Guardianship/Kaitiakitanga
Te Pou a Wahatuoro-Leadership/Mana motuhake

In each of the services we provide we will share how we nurture the use of Whakapapa, Pikiaotanga, Reo taketake, Matauranga, Kaitiakitanga and Mana motuhake
